The Diablo franchise has been around for decades and is Blizzard’s crown jewel. Each game left its mark on the industry, but even now, after all these years, Diablo 2 remains the gold standard for all role-playing games, as a result, Diablo 4 had to live up to this expectation. I’ll basically exclude Diablo 3 from this comparison because I was disappointed with this edition.
I guess I wasn’t the only one who thought the franchise lost its stride, as Blizzard kept D2 in mind when designing D4. And how well did it work? Is this the dark and grim Diablo 2 that fans adored? I must admit that I was skeptical, especially after the events of Diablo Immortal. microtransactions and free stuff were abundant in the mobile game, which completely turned me off. however, it turns out, Diablo IV was a hit and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
with a grimmer and darker setting, Diablo 4 takes place many years after the events of Diablo III, The war between angels and demons and the continuous struggle between mankind and the forces of hell are also major themes in the narrative

The plot is an essential aspect of any Diablo game. While you can completely disregard the lore, missing it entirely would be a mistake! Without giving too much away, the Diablo 4 plot centers around the demon Lilith, rogue angel Inarius, and their creation: the planet of Sanctuary. The plot is full of twists and turns, and to be honest, I was leaning towards rooting with Lilith in this struggle, as Inarius was far from a shining light.
The plot is divided into five Acts, so you learn about it gradually, which served as a carrot on a stick for me. However, the story would be less successful without such excellent world-building. Sanctuary is a large globe filled with vibrant cities and villages. There’s a lot to do, from conversing with NPCs to completing side-quests and taking down Strongholds. when you combine that with endgame content and the other players’ presence, you’ll feel like you’re part of the vibrant world with a lot to offer.
Let’s be clear about one thing —grinding and hoarding have always been at the heart of Diablo games. character advancement is my primary motivation, therefore I appreciate that it’s still the norm in Diablo 4.
But I needed to feel like I was progressing all the time, and that wasn’t always the case in this position if I was to appreciate this never-ending cycle. That emotion did surface more after I won the game, but even then I wasn’t quite satisfied. The main reason behind this is that Blizzard anticipates that gamers will continue to play Diablo IV for many years, but to quote Freddy Mercury, “I want it all, and I want it now.”
The fighting in Diablo 4 seems remarkably identical to prior entries, which is a huge plus! One should not replace a franchise mainstay on the spur of the moment. Blizzard was aware, so they made only minor changes to the well-known mechanism. The emphasis appears to be on reinstating the Diablo 2 system but modernizing it (with even more sockets, gems, and other item enhancers).
When it came to the aesthetics in Diablo games, I’ve always had high hopes. Indeed, I must admit that I was among many Diablo veterans who were put off by Diablo 3’s unicorns and rainbows aesthetic. Blizzard realized they had gone too far with the aesthetics, so they reverted to Diablo 2’s gothic hue. Diablo 4’s somber tone blends with magnificent, top-tier cinematics to create a visual masterpiece.
Diablo 4 is here, and it will not be forgotten for many years. This game is still in its early stages, as the endgame is simply the beginning. With the announcement of Seasons, you may expect more changes (and new classes).
Of course, Blizzard intends to make money by selling the game and providing you with sparkling cosmetics and other Battle Pass benefits. While I dislike microtransactions, I don’t mind them as long as they don’t cross the line into pay-to-win territory. If you’ve ever played Diablo, you’ll love D4. And if you’re a newbie, welcome aboard!
